The wealth of British Priem Minister Rishi Sunka and his wife Akshata Murty has taken a massive hit this time. The ultra-super-rich couple has lost GBP 201 million ( ₹2072 crore approx) in the past one year. The power couple, having family ties with Indian business tycoon Narayana Murthy and philanthropist Sudha Murty, has lost billions of wealth due to a fall in shares of Infosys.
Narayana Murthy is the founder of Infosys and Akshata Murty is his daughter and Sunak is his son-in-law. The billionaire couple's most valuable asset has long been a shareholding in Infosys.
UK PM Sunak and his wife Murty ranked in the 222nd position last year in The Sunday Times Rich List. However, as Infosys shares plummeted by about 20% in the last 12 months, the rank of this wealth couple has plunged to 227 this year.
Last year, Sunak and Murty made a debut on The Sunday Times Rich List. At that time their stake was worth about GBP 690 million. This year, the couple's wealth nosedived to GBP 529 million, largely attributed to the IT firm Infosys.
Notably, Sunak is the richest ever occupant of 10 Downing Street, and his fortune has opened him up to regular attacks from opposition politicians who say he is out of touch with ordinary people at a time of a cost-of-living crisis making many Britons poorer.
As Britain's prime minister, he is entitled to an annual salary of about 165,000 pounds ($208,246). According to Rich List estimates, his wealth was put at around 730 million pounds last year, before it dropped to 529 million in 2023.
